B&W Photographs, 1980s

In early 1980s Chicago, Michelle Handelman began photographing herself and her friends in a series of tableaus. These are the earliest photos by Handelman, initiated by self-portraits shot in her living room studio with a 4x5” camera and handheld bulb release. What follows is a selection of recently digitized contact sheets from Handelman’s archives.
