Four-Hour Performance with Closed-Circuit Video Feed, 2001
Originally performed at the Jack Tilton/Anna Kustera Gallery, NYC
Repeating the line, "I exist in a highly excited state of overstimulation," from David Cronenberg's film Videodrome, Handelman works herself into a state of self-obliteration–verbally assaulting the lens, then repairing her action by sewing over the lens until it goes black, then cutting through the thread and starting over again, trapped in a repetitive cycle of frustration and digital overstimulation.
Viewers watch the action on both on a closed-circuit monitor and live.
